Dibden Bay will be "safeguarded" for future use within Southampton''s port masterplanning exercise, it has been revealed.

Associated British Ports' proposals for a deepwater container terminal at Dibden Bay were rejected by the British government four years ago but the site still has allocation for strategic port development.

Land availability will increasingly become an issue in the future, said ABP's deputy port manager at Southampton, Steven Young. "In the longer term, Dibden Bay is the obvious legacy."
