Having recently invested in new manufacturing facilities, Italy's CVS Ferrari says it will deliver the first examples of its new FSC 4013E electric straddle carrier - a 40 tonne capacity, one-over-three stacking machine - in October.
Also new from CVS Ferrari is a mini-straddle carrier, which has been given the name 'Container Runner.' The Container Runner is designed to stack one-over-one, and is CVS Ferrari's answer to Kalmar's shuttle carrier and Noell's sprinter. The Container Runner has already been extensively tested at terminals in Italy and in Europe, and Virginia International Terminal is understood to be the first customer to trial the new machine in the US.
The machine has a variable centre of gravity, and does not require hoisting gear or ropes and pulleys, and is designed to lift a single 9ft 6in container over another in either 40 tonne single lift or 50/60 tonne twin-lift mode.
