The Port of Barcelona has launched construction of its first onshore power system (OPS) for cruise ships, marking a major milestone in the port’s port electrification strategy.

The €12.2 million project at the MSC Terminal, awarded to Danish engineering firm PowerCon, will allow cruise vessels to plug into onshore power while docked, cutting emissions and promoting the use of renewable energy across the port.
