There has been a rapid expansion in the electrification market in the ports and terminals sector and increased demand for faster charging solutions, writes Jesse Makkonen, head of marine and port at Kempower.

Over the past five years, electrification has been driven largely by passenger cars and buses. More recently, though, net‑zero targets and a total cost of ownership (TCO) tipping point have accelerated electrification into new segments such as ports and material handling.
