First ship-to-ship ammonia transfer

The Port of Dampier in Western Australia has played host to a pioneering ship-to-ship transfer of liquid ammonia, reports the Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation

Conducted on 14 September 2024 at Western Anchorage WA19, 20 nautical miles off the port, the pilot involved the transfer of 2,700 tonnes of ammonia between two gas carriers – the Green Pioneer and Navigator Global – at rates up to 800 m³/hr.
