Peel Ports adds hydropower to its repertoire

A new hydropower generator at the mouth of the Manchester Ship Canal will generate 1,500,000 kWh of green energy each year

As part of its drive to become net-zero by 2040, Peel Ports Group is installing hydropower at its Queen Elizabeth II Dock at Eastham on the Manchester Ship Canal.

The port operator partnered with Czech renewable energy specialist Hydropol to install a twin Archimedean screw generator, at the site’s 30 foot lock.
