Get on board with cloud technologies, urges XVELA

Cloud-based solutions constitute the technology that will have the greatest effect on the ports and terminals industry today, XVELA chief technology officer Robert Inchausti has said.

Speaking exclusively to Port Strategy at TOC Europe 2018, Mr Inchausti made the comment while discussing the concept of collaboration, arguing that having a collaboration platform where all of the industry’s systems are interconnected means they can share data and work a lot more efficiently than is currently possible.

“The cloud has the opportunity to tie all of these disparate systems together and update each one based on what’s happening so the carrier, terminal operator, port authority, agent and local pilots can work collaboratively, both in their own systems and in the cloud, to make the best decisions possible,” he claimed.

Mr Inchausti also said that the ports and terminals industry is “an industry of exceptions” and that plans change as rapidly as they are finalised.

“So you really need systems and data that allow you to make decisions that are based on what is happening in real time, and the cloud allows you to do that better than any other technology available today,” he explained.
