Gisborne gains Asian service

Eastland Port has established its first-ever scheduled shipping connection to North Asia, following the recent commencement of a monthly Lodestar service.

Both shipping companies had been banned from exchanging cargo at the port over recent months – MSC on a new service from Australia and Maersk attempting to reinstate a former P&O Nedlloyd service from New Zealand.

Expected to cater for the pending “wall of wood” generating from the Gisborne region, the new service entails a rotation of Tauranga-GisborneKunsan-Inchon-Taicang-China/DavaoPhilippines-Tauranga.

Eastland Port is now averaging two Asian calls per month from the Carter Holt Harvey shipping and cargo logistics subsidiary, with another Lodestar vessel continuing the irregular “tramp” service commenced in May last year.
