APM Terminals rejects Fentenapu accusations

While not in the original terminal development plans, all suggested infrastructure and design improvements will be entirely financed entirely by APM Terminals Callao.

Fentenapu, the trade union linked to the National Port Company ENAPU, which had formerly operated Callao North Terminal, continues to react negatively to the proposal.

“It would be unacceptable for the Ministry of Transport and Communications to allow APM Terminals to manage an addendum to modify the basis of its concession contract for Callao’s North Terminal. It would be using the same trickery as Odebrecht and all that of other corrupt authorities that are being discovered,” said Jorge García Farías, of Fentenapu.

Before being allowed to make changes, he wants APM Terminals to respond to 6,000 complaints made by users to Ositran and also boost productivity above levels established by previous port operator Enapu.

APM Terminals pointed out that, contrary to some beliefs, Fentenapu does not represent APM Terminals’ workers at the terminal. It also stressed that it has successfully concluded phases 1 & 2 of the modernisation of the terminal, investing over $460m, which included additional investments to improve the terminal´s infrastructure.
