ACP says no concession in progress for Corozal
In response to erroneous local press reports, the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has issued a press release clarifying that there is no ongoing tender covering the proposed Corozal container port at the Pacific end of the Canal.
The bidding process was effectively terminated at the end of last year, after no bids were received. After the deadline for the bidding process expired, the Canal authority undertook an evaluation of what had happened and is now looking at drawing up possible new terms and conditions for the development of a container operation at the western end of the Canal.
Nevertheless, the proposed box facility does form part of the overall strategic commercial development plan of the ACP.
