APMT loses patience in Guatemala

According to a statement put out by the terminal operator, the decision was prompted by a precautionary measure filed by the Fiscal General de la República de Guatemala, or the Attorney General of Guatemala, through an appeal in the fifth chamber of the Contentious-Administrative Court, in which the concession contract to build and operate the terminal was nullified.

Legal action was initially begun against Barcelona-based Grup Marítim TCB, which won the original concession before being bought out by APMT. The award of the contract, which was undertaken during the administration of President Otto Pérez, was later alleged to have been a corrupt transaction.

APMT has spent the past two and half years attempting to resolve the impasse, whose most contentious elements, it stresses, took place before it assumed ownership of APM Terminals Quetzal.
