Tenders are expected to be issued soon for the construction of a new port complex, on 1,771 hectares at Ponta da Talhu, close to Ilheus and Itacare. To be called Porto Sul, the “intermodal complex” will have a port, rail lilnks, inland water terminal, national road links and a new airport.

Once the new port is up and running it will handle 25m tonnes per annum including iron ore, containers and general cargo.
