Brazil extends port concessions without new tender

Although Antaq and government agencies have put pressure on port companies to implement the tender procedure, this has only been done in a few cases.

There are 328 public terminals currently operated as concessions, of which 14 this year and 12 next year are due for renewal.

These include extremely large companies such as Petrobras and Braskem, which will be put in the situation of having to re-bid to retain their operating areas. All concession holders will now have the right to a 50-year concession.
