Brazilian ports struggled in 2010

Shipping agents reported operational delays, while some export minerals and agribulk traffic was faced with bottlenecks on the quays.

Some ships taking on board export sugar consignments at Santos and Paranaguá, for example, were faced with a wait of up to 30 days.

The local director of Hamburg Süd noted that increased numbers of imported containers resulted in longer dwell times for boxes in the stacking yards, which negatively impacted the logistics chain. As a result, operations have slowed at many ports.
