Birth of South American Pacific ports association
The ports of Calllao (Peru), Buenaventura (Columbia), Guayaquil (Ecuador), Valparaíso (Chile) and San Antonio (Chile) have signed an agreement to create the South American Pacific Port Community (COPASUD).
Part of the objective is to improve handling for cargo to and from Asia, with the possibility that one of the five ports could eventually become the major container hub on the Pacific. The organisation also hopes to boost commerce in South America and also improve connections between the ports.
