Brazil to modernise infrastructure

New auctions are to be held for a series of public terminals, with those in Manaus, Espiritu Santo and Ilhéus – and possibly Imbituba – being prepared first.
On offer will be 25 year concessions, with possible options for a further 25 year extension.

In addition, bids will also be invited for 98 terminals that were leased prior to the 1993 Ports Law. Contracts with these have either expired or will expire shortly and do not allow extensions.

Finally, a review is to take place of so-called delegated ports, whose administration is carried out by state or municipal governments. Ports in Paranaguá, Itaquí and Rio Grande will be looked at first.
