Environmental appreciation for Georgia
The US Environmental Protection Agency has lauded Georgia Ports Authority’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and awarded it a grant to build on its successes.
The Southeast Diesel Collaborative, a public-private partnership formed by the EPA’s Region 4 office, named the GPA as a Community Leadership Award winner for its moves to improve air quality and public health through the reduction of emissions from existing diesel engines.
Georgia Ports Authority boasts four electrified rubber-tyred gantry cranes and has approved spending for the conversion of a further 10 diesel RTGs to electric power, and to install conductor rails at 12 more container blocks. GPA expects its transition to an all-eRTG fleet to be complete by 2024.
In addition to the SEDC announcement, the EPA awarded GPA with a $600,000 Diesel Emissions Reduction Act grant to be used for a dray truck financing program.
