APM Terminals fined for Callao operations
APM Terminals has been fined a total of $501,399 since 2011 after having failed to fulfil certain conditions contained within its concession contract for its terminal at the North Quay at the Peruvian port of Callao.
Of the 19 fines levied by Ositrán on APM Terminals, nine relate to service levels that have to be met each quarter. The information came to light as part of a report sent to congressman Rubén Valencia by Peru’s public transport infrastructure supervisory body Ositrán.
Enapu’s National Federation of Port Workers (Fentenapu) says that the report confirms earlier complaints made by its members to successive government ministers.
However, APM Terminals’ spokesperson Tom Boyd labels the criticisms as “unreasonable”, since the calculations require the company to take responsibility for factors beyond its control, such as a lack of trucks in the local market.
“We are confident that the situation will be resolved favourably,” said Mr Boyd.
