And the lessons are . . .
TT Club says that three main lessons can be learned from this case, though they apply equally to other types of cargo security breach. First is ” know your shipper” – making sure his credentials are bona fide.
TT Club takes one such case as an illustration, and spells out the lessons to be learned.
Second is the need for increased vigilance at the terminal gate, with particular attention being paid to security devices relating to the release of cargo, such as PIN numbers.
Finally, says the Club, port and facility operators need to focus closely on preemployment vetting of even temporary, short-term or contract staff, while continuing to nurture a strong, productive relationship with permanent employees.
