Addressing environmental challenges at ports

Being held in Le Havre, France from 23 to 25 October, the event will gather key stakeholders together to explore green technologies, regulatory frameworks, and sustainable growth in maritime transport.

Among those on the full programme include Jamil Ouazzani, director of marketing & strategic intelligence at Tangier City Port Management Company, who will present on ’Sustainability: Challenges and Opportunities in the Port Sector’, highighting how data intelligence can drive sustainability initiatives in ports.

“Sustainability in the port sector requires a mix of innovative technologies and strategic vision. Our ports must adopt forward-thinking solutions to remain competitive while minimizing their environmental impact,” said Mr Ouazzani.

Programme highlights

Valeria Mangiarotti, marketing manager at the Port System Authority of the Sardinian Sea, will discuss ’The State of the Art of Technical Environmental Solutions in Mediterranean Ports.’

She will focus on cutting-edge innovations like Onshore Power Supply (OPS) and its role in reducing carbon emissions from port operations.

In addition, speakers from the TEN-T network will discuss the latest in maritime transport infrastructure, sustainable and resilient short sea shipping links and green corridors

Three EU TEN-T coordinators, responsible for the European Maritime Space, the North Sea Rhine Mediterranean and the Atlantic European Transport Corridors will be exploring the impact of revised TEN-T Guidelines (EU Regulation 2024/1679, Adopted on June 13, 2024) and EU Funding on the green transition of the maritime sector, at this year’s Greenport Congress.

This will include the new TEN-T requirement to better connect the ports with their hinterlands and EU funding support, with a focus on alternative fuels.
