In 2006, imports grew by 20% compared with 2005 and have grown by 36% over the last three years.

There is now a very real risk of a logistics collapse at the port, which is now handling levels of container traffic previously forecast for 2010.

Last year, throughput amounted to 1.2m teu and the port is now expected to be handling 1.6m teu for 2010.
