Antaq authorises new port tenders

Antaq, the Brazilian state organisation overseeing port development, has authorised new tenders for terminals at both Santos and Imbituba.

At the former, the tender will cover the liquid bulk terminal currently managed by Vopak, while at the latter a terminal handling fertiliser and animal feed is up for grabs. The winner of the 25-year concession will be that offering the best business case.

At Santos, investment of at least $6.11m is required, along with payments of $19.12m for the existing infrastructure. In addition, $1.41 will have to be paid to the port authority for every tonne handled. At Imbituba, the minimum investment has been set at $10.07m and $1.42 will be the figure for each tonne moved. Tenders are expected to be awarded in April.

CVRD has also been given permission by Antaq to build a fourth pier and also expand the Stockpile Area I at Ponta da Madeira Port. Investment of $218m is needed to boost dry bulk capacity to close to 100m tonnes per year. The new pier will be able to accommodate 400,000dwt Chinamax vessels.

Finally, Antaq has agreed to give the go-ahead to the $740m LLX Sudeste port project promoted by LLX Logística. The 50m tonne capacity iron ore terminal will be built close to Itaguaí.
