APM Terminals makes moves into Colombia
APM Terminals has invested in Colombia to gain a foothold in what it views as one of the “most promising investment opportunities in the region”.
The global operator has signed a joint venture with Colombian-based Compañia de Puertos Asociados (Compas) to jointly manage and operate Compas’ existing multipurpose Cartagena Terminal.
APMT will hold a 51% majority share and will jointly invest over $200m in upgrading and expanding the terminal to triple capacity.
The Compas Cartagena Terminal is now the sixth operational Latin American facility within the APM Terminals Global Terminal Network, joining port facilities in Callao, Peru; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and Santos, Pecém, and Itajaí, Brazil.
