Brazil mulls Docas privatisation
The Brazilian government is looking at the possibility of privatising national ports.
At present, these are run by independent port companies (Docas), which are beset by financial and management problems that do not allow them to in a monitor or make investment in private terminals.
These companies are also unable to fund dredging, upgrade signage, or improve road or rail access.
This is viewed as making it difficult for them to continue managing the ports efficiently.
