Brazil ups investment in ports

The Transport Infrastructure Department of Brazil has been given a budget of $9.34bn for 2011, which will have to be shared equally between highways, waterways and railways.

Spending on ports will amount to $11.34bn to 2014, according to the state-owned BNDES bank, with a need to build more container terminals driving investment.

Major dredging projects, which form part of the Accelerated Growth Programme, will also form part of the overall investment.
