Brazilian ports desperate for investment
Senator Roberto Cavalcanti has publicly stated that private investment from both home and abroad is needed to reduce the existing port infrastructure bottleneck in Brazil, especially since 80% of Brazilian exports depends on its maritime ports.
He pointed out that the largest ports are operating at the edge of their capacity and this was due in part to a lack of public investment. He added he wanted to see private investors attracted to the sector.
Quoting from a recent report, he identified immediate investment of $24bn was needed, while the Accelerated Growth Programme was making available just $6bn.
