Buenaventura forced to adopt contingency plan
After 15 days of crippling strikes at the Colombian Port of Buenaventura, Buenaventura Port Society’s Container Terminal (TCBUEN) has been forced to introduce a contingency plan to return working practices to normal, especially for the loading and discharge of boxes.
A variety of temporary measures have been adopted, including adopting 24-hour working to streamline the delivery and pick up of both containers and non-containerised cargo. At the same time, paperwork processing and billing will be available from 07:00 to 20:00 hours.
Deliveries and pick-ups can now be made on the same day as long as a request to do so is made by noon on that day; this measure stays in place until operations return to normal.
Significantly, if an agreement is reached in advanced, TCBUEN will also undertake night time operations for clients.
Finally, charges will be waived for some cargo trapped in warehouses during the dispute.
