EPV to push ahead with new T2 tender

This is in spite of the fact that the previous concessionaire, Terminal Cerros de Valparaíso, pulled out, citing excessive delays in environmental processing.

EPV, which is now hoping to issue a new tender by the end of this year, notes that the cost of implementing the terminal has risen by around $60m or 12% based on the original cost.

According to Fernando Ramírez, Chile’s central zone needs to have 4m teu of port capacity in place on or before 2025, which means adding an extra 1m teu.

Although some of this could come from upgrading hinterland infrastructure, the majority must come from the ports themselves, he argued.

Planning for T2 is five years in advance of any alternative, he added.
