Data breach during CMA CGM cyber attack
The CMA CGM Group continues to mobilise its online business following a cyber attack in which a suspected data breach took place.
CMA CGM initially said the attack on 28 September did not compromise its security, however, on 30 September it stated: “We suspect a data breach and are doing everything possible to assess its potential volume and nature.” It added that the investigation into the cyber-attack was ongoing.
On 2 October it said it was working on restoring access to all its information systems and its worldwide agency network was gradually being reconnected.
Subsidiaries Mercosul and Containerships were confirmed as being fully operational again, but CMA CGM’s eCommerce websites remain suspended.
First analysis
On 28 September, the French container transportation and shipping business said maritime and port operations were functioning and communications to and from the Group were secure.
CMA CGM’s port operators, TERMINAL LINK and CMA TERMINALS, manage a total of 45 terminals worldwide.
CMA TERMINALS is fully owned by CMA CGM. TERMINAL LINK is 51% owned by CMA CGM and 49% owned by China Merchants Holdings International.
