The new terminal tractors will be used to load and unload wheeled cargo from roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) vessels. Seven of the machines will operate at the company's Livorno Terminal Marittimo (LTM) and two at the CPS terminal in Catania.

"Kalmar was the natural choice for us when renewing our terminal tractor fleet because of the excellent working relationship we have built up over many years of partnership,” said Matteo Savelli, LTM CEO.

Efficient performance

Mr Savelli pointed out that LTM already operates Kalmar machines at the terminal, which he praised both for their performance and the equipment manufacturer’s skilled customer service.

Kalmar's pioneering heavy-duty TR618i terminal tractors are designed specifically to meet the tough demands of ro-ro operations, where fast and efficient ship turnarounds are critical to maintaining profitability.

They have a reputation for outstanding durability, visibility and operator comfort to ensure excellent performance when moving heavy loads in harsh port conditions. Furthermore, state-of-the-art engine technology helps to minimise atmospheric emissions, while the machines also include a number of safety-related features developed in close collaboration with customers.

Kalmar's local team of skilled service engineers already supports Onorato Armatori with equipment maintenance services at both its Livorno and Catania locations.

Delivery of the new terminal tractors is scheduled to take place during the second quarter of 2018.
