New Valencia port authority president Aurelio Martínez has announced that there will be “changes” to the way the port is run during his period in office.

At a speech given during the handover period, he noted that the institution's way of doing business would change, given “current challenges and uncertainties” that will result in lower growth rates than those seen over the past 15 months.
Nevertheless, he reaffirmed his commitment to establishing Valencia not only as the Mediterranean's leading port, but also one of Europe's.
In other news, Spain's National Port Authority is predicting a profit of €204.2m in 2016, which will be a rise of 47.5% over the forecast 2015 figure.
Traffic is also expected to reach record levels. In 2015, this will be 500m tons, rising to 513.5m tons next year, growth of 3.7%. The main increase will come from liquid bulk (+2.5%), dry bulk (2.7%) and general cargo (5%).
