Mark of quality for container terminals

Ten international stakeholders from the global maritime logistics community – IPC, MTC, Yantian Hutchison, Eurogate, Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG, Hamburg Port Authority, Ingenieurbüro Dr Wild, Global Institute of Logistics and Germanischer Lloyd – met last month to discuss how best to measure terminal operation standards, such as effectiveness and performance.

Germanischer Lloyd is to develop the so-called Container Terminal Quality Indicator (CTQI) standard, which aims to deliver a benchmarking system based on the results of different workshops with branch experts and ports performance within the supply chain process.

The new standard is set to be launched at the end of 2007. The benchmarking system will be based on the results of workshops with branch experts and measurements of port performance.
