MOL releases environmental report
Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) has issues the English version of its ‘Environmental and Social Report 2014’, which sets out the Group’s outlook and latest initiatives regarding corporate social responsibility and the environment.
The report provides a range of information based on the viewpoints of the environment, society and governance, which support MOL’s sustainability, and looks at the issues the Group needs to focus on to ensure continued growth.
A special feature, Contributing to Society through Businesses, explains the significance of the ocean shipping industry and looks at MOL technologies aimed at saving energy and protecting the environment, including Propeller Boss Cap Fins and low-friction hull paint.
The report also touches on MOL’s Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) and LNG business.
When covering the upcoming emissions regulations, MOL says it views the changes as business opportunities. “To this effect, we launched the Senpaku ISHIN project (next-generation vessels) in the previous midterm management plan and created next generation vessels, which are equipped with the elemental technology proposed for the Senpaku ISHIN,” the report explains. The Group says it’s also been sure to inform the public, through its website, on its environmental information and targets, including CO2, NOx and SOx reduction targets and emissions, that make up some of its KPIs.
