Some years ago, CLPE decided not to rely wholly on second-hand sales in order to stay in business over the longer term.
To ensure that any downturn in the second-hand market would not result in the drying up of its cash flow, the company created a contracts division. This specialist team dismantles and removes redundant or surplus dockside and gantry cranes.
The company also adds that there is a demand within the industry to move mobile harbour cranes to different locations within the UK or even move cranes between berths within the same harbour.
"This type of work has to be undertaken to the highest possible standards, taking into account health and safety procedures, which implies the use of the best available equipment," says Mr Vaughan, who notes that CLPE has undertaken these types of assignments for ABP, Forth Ports and RMS, as well as for various clients in both Ireland and Holland.
