NPA TO OFFLOAD MORE WORKERS

Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has implemented a second phase redundancy programme encompassing 1,000 employees.

CentrePort Wellington chief executive Liz Ward indicated the cranes would be a significant driver in achieving greater productivity and service reliability. “Our business strategy is to grow revenue through an integrated logistics approach to port facilities, services and property interests, ” says Ms Ward. “However, CentrePort Wellington is foremost a port.

According to the NPA, many of those dismissed had obtained jobs through the use of fake certificates.

An initial retrenchment phase also saw around 1,000 employees leave the organisation. Around US$303,000 will be paid out to those workers leaving the industry.
