EU subsidy for LNG project

The very fact that Antwerp has been granted the subsidy indicates a vote of confidence in LNG as a fuel for the future from the Commission.

A spokesperson told GreenPort that the port of Antwerp has for some time now been preparing extensively “to make LNG available to vessels in the port in a safe, efficient way by 2015, when the stricter IMO regulations for sulphur content of fuels come into force.”

Preparatory work has already started on the project because the objective is to have the station in operation by the end of 2015.

This week the barge Greenstream bunkered and refuelled at the port. This comes several months after the first LNG barge, the Argonon, was bunkered and refuelled at Antwerp in December 2012.

Det Norske Veritas has been responsible for during up procedures for an operational standard for bunkering vessels at the port in a safe and efficient way.

Antwerp Port Authority first published its specifications for the design of an LNG bunkering vessel in March 2012.
