First LNG bunkering at Port of Szczecin

PGNiG Capital Group’s oil and gas firm PGNiG Obrót Detaliczny and bitumen producer LOTOS Asfalt partnered to carry out the truck-to-ship bunkering at the port using cryogenic tanks.

“Together with Grupa LOTOS, we have already completed several dozen bunkering operations, i.e. refueling ships with liquefied natural gas,” said Jarosław Wróbel, acting president of the Management Board of PGNiG SA.

“We are glad that the service is gaining popularity and, in Gdańsk and Gdynia, its implementation is possible in other Polish ports. We a[ppre convinced that LNG fuel is the future of sea transport in the Baltic Sea. The cooperation between PGNiG and Grupa LOTOS in this respect is a good example that justifies the existence of a multi-energy concern, of which we will soon be part.”

The LNG fuel was received by DEME’s hopper dredger, Scheldt River. This vessel works on the dredging of the Świnoujście-Szczecin fairway, that enable ships even twice as large as today to call into Szczecin.

PGNiG Obrót Detaliczny provides LNG bunkering services in five ports in Poland (Szczecin, Świnoujście, Police, Gdynia, Gdańsk). So far, it has completed bunkering for 12 different ships.

Grupa LOTOS said it has completed a feasibility study for the construction of a small-scale LNG reloading terminal in Gdańsk, which is already at the final stage of internal corporate decisions, explains Paweł Jan Majewski, President of the Management Board of Grupa LOTOS.
