UECC wins LNG vessel order

The vessels will be 181m long with a 30m beam and will be capable of operating with LNG or heavy fuel oil and marine gas oil, providing greater flexibility and efficiency. UECC says this makes the vessels the first PCTCs to be fitted with an LNG fuel propulsion system.

“The LNG installation is a pioneering design and will be one of the largest employed on a commercial vessel and the largest yet of its kind on a pure car and truck carrier,” said Glenn Edvardsen, CEO, UECC.

Operating on LNG fuel, the vessels will be able to complete a 14-day voyage in the Baltic using solely LNG fuel, including main engine and auxiliary power generation.

“We are proud of the exciting step UECC is taking towards greener and more environmentally-friendly shipping,” added Mr Edvardsen.

Additionally, the vessels will each have the capacity to transport around 3,800 cars spread over 10 decks, while a significant part of the cargo capacity can also be used to transport high and heavy cargo loaded on to mafi trailers.

UECC says they will employ a number of other design elements and technologies to help reduce fuel consumption and emissions, ensuring safer and more efficient operations.

Delivery is scheduled for 2016.
