Oakland’s Clean Air Programme

Port Board President Ayers- Johnson said, “The Port is committed to reducing the health risk from diesel particulate matter from seaport sources by 85% by the year 2020. This new project is another step in the right direction toward achieving this important goal.” LNG trucks have significant lower particulate levels than diesel-powered trucks. Port Executive Director Omar Benjamin stated, “When operated, these clean LNG trucks have very low emissions. That is good for air quality and a healthy community.” The plan to bring in these cleaner trucks is considered an “early action” because it is being implemented well before new truck emissions regulations go into effect. According to CleanAir TransPort Co-founder Roger Lowther, “We are very pleased to be partnering with the Port on these new LNG trucks that will serve the Port of Oakland Maritime Area and help clean up the environment.”
