Port Canaveral joins Green Marine programme

CPA is the 100th participant to join the North American initiative committed to advancing environmental excellence in maritime transportation.

“It is our responsibility to maintain the critical balance of physical conditions that allows Port Canaveral to fulfil its many functions,” said Jerry Allender, Commission chairman who believes protecting the environment is one of the port’s most important duties.

He added: “For an environmentally sensitive area as large and active as Port Canaveral, this requires a day-in day-out commitment.”

Green Marine will now assist the port to benchmark its environmental performance and identify ways to improve it.

David Bolduc, Green Marine’s executive director, said: “I am especially pleased that Port Canaveral is our 100th participant because it is an organisation that well reflects Green Marine’s philosophy and values.”

He concluded: “One of the driving forces within the extremely dynamic Floridian maritime economy, the Canaveral Port Authority is already engaged in several initiatives to protect the environment and to continue expanding its business in sustainable ways.”

The milestone of 100 participants, reflects the increasing number of North American ports who are proactive in trying to achieve greater sustainability and demonstrate environmental commitment.
