Port Metro Vancouver joins Green Award
As part of its policy to promote the quality of shipping in the port, Port Metro Vancouver has announced a reduction on port dues for sea-going vessels certified by the Green Award Foundation. Port Metro Vancouver recognizes Green Award certified vessels as eligible at the Bronze level under the Differentiated Harbour Dues Program, which represents 26% savings over the basic harbour dues rate.
During the 50th ACPA Conference held in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, Captain Gordon Houston, President and CEO of Port Metro Vancouver received an official Green Award plaque from Jan Fransen, Managing Director of Green Award, marking the occasion of the official participation of Port Metro Vancouver in the Green Award scheme. “Our participation in this program is a clear demonstration of our commitment to environmental responsibility” said Captain Gordon Houston. Jan Fransen stated that Green Award is delighted with the participation of Port Metro Vancouver as the first port in the Americas. He is convinced that more ports will participate in the scheme whereby the mutual advantages can be developed further: ports receive more quality ships and ship owners who want to invest in cleaner, safer management, are in turn rewarded for this.
