Port rail project gets funding
The Port of Los Angeles has been awarded $16 million toward a rail project that will both reduce pollution and ease congestion.
The West Basin Railyard project will maximise the use of rail at the port: beside the pollution and congestion benefits, the project will also create almost 2,000 construction jobs, enhance safety, and improve the liveability of the region – as well as improving both the sustainability and competitiveness of port operations.
The money is coming from the US Department of Transportation’s National Infrastructure Investment grant program, known as “Tiger II” which is awarding a total of $600 million nationwide.
