San Francisco considers biofuel facility
Port of San Francisco commissioners are in discussions with Darling International to convert a rendering facility that it owns into a biofuel production facility.
At present the operation treats millions of pounds of food waste collected every week from the city to produce domestic goods like soap and animal food.
However, the new plan to convert the plant to biodiesel production is proving to be controversial, and is being opposed by the San Francisco Green Party as well as other local groups.
