SFL acquires Kamsarmax carriers

Bermuda-based Ship Finance International Limited (SFL) is to acquire two 82,000 tonne Kamsarmax dry-bulk carriers, as well as long-term charters to a state-owned Chinese charterer.

The vessels, built in 2012, are expected to be delivered to SFL within the next two months. The company says the aggregate annual EBITDA contribution from the vessels is expected to be around US$7m during the eight-year charter period. Delivery is expected before the end of July 2014.

“We are pleased to announce acquisitions and long-term charters to top quality counterparties that will continue to build our long-term distr5ibution capacity,” said Ole B Hjertaker, CEO, Ship Finance Management.

“The container vessels under construction are currently ahead of schedule, and the charter-rate is reflective of the very high specifications including the latest in eco-design features,” he added.

SFL has also secured long-term charters for four 8,700 teu newbuild container vessels, currently under construction in Korea. The charterer will be a large, European-based container line, and the charter period will be seven years from delivery of each vessel.

The estimated EBITDA contribution from the vessels is around US$46m in aggregate. Delivery is scheduled from Q3 2014 to Q1 2015.
