Calcutta Port Trust has appointed Delhi-based Consulting Engineering Services to undertake a feasibility study for new jetties on the banks of the Hooghly River at Diamond Bay. Each of these multi-purpose facilities will be capable of handling throughputs of up to 1.5m tons per annum and will therefore need considerable backup areas. The new jetties will target import products such as timber, pulses and peas, and thermal coal, as well as imported iron ore and food grain.
