China increases container league table domination

With Hong Kong sitting atop the 2004 league table and neighbouring Shenzhen, comprising the three terminal complexes of Chiwan, Shekou and Yiantian, now ranking fourth, the massive factory outlet that is southern China accounts for a cool 35.5mTEUs annually according to the latest figures from Containerisation International.

The contract for consultancy was awarded to Singapore’s Jurong Consultants and made on behalf of Horizon Singapore Terminals Pte Limited (HSTL).

With Shanghai, in third position, recording 14.6mTEUs, it was left to second ranked Singapore with 20.6mTEUs to remind us that Southeast Asia is still a significant player. Busan and Kaoshiung ranked fifth and sixth respectively with Rotterdam, in seventh position, the busiest nonAsian port.
