China surveys the river

The survey will identify each port’s procurement needs for the next 12-18 months and beyond in the main categories of handling equipment (for bulk and containers) and telecommunications (tracking and port-to-vessel) technology.

It will also identify those ports that have secured finance and want to take part in the July summit and the subsequent fact-finding mission.

This is to be followed in July with an equipment and technology summit in Wuhan, where senior port managers in charge of procurement will gather to hear about the government incentives, exchange views with other port operators that have already benefited from the tax incentives, and meet foreign suppliers so that they can find the products that best suit their needs and budgets.

Later in the year, a number of the decision-makers will go on a fact-finding mission to see some of the best equipped river ports overseas.
