Cosco takes fresh look at port investment
The chief executive of Cosco has revealed that the company may well resume its investment in ports.
“I believe now is a good time to go bottom-fishing,” Wei Jiafu revealed recently.
In July last year, Cosco acquired a 13.7% stake in Yantian port from APM Terminals at a cost of $520m, which was almost half the price initially negotiated.
It is believed that if Cosco does go ahead and invest in port terminals, it will be able to cut container handling costs, although analysts suggest that this will take some time to accrue given the sluggish state of global economic recovery.
