DP World moves into Saigon
This coincides with the delivery of four gantry cranes, which it is hoped will boost productivity by a factor of three. However, at the moment, they are only handling 10-12 containers per hour.
DP World has announced that it is to invest €182m in the development of Saigon Premier Container Terminal. This is a joint-venture between its P&O Ports subsidiary (80%) and Vietnamese partner Tan Thuan Industrial Promotion Company (20%), a state-owned company. The terminal will be located on the western bank of the Soa Rap River and will have a 1.5m teu capacity. Facilities will include a 950 metre quay and 48 ha of adjacent backup land. The first two berths will enter service in 2008 and the others will be phased in as traffic builds up.
