Four bid for Colombo
Four bids have been lodged for the 35-year concession to operate the new container terminal in the port of Colombo, which will have a proposed handling capacity of 2.4m teu.
The bidders have been named as HPH, PSA, CMA CGM and John Keells Holdings/Westport.
Meanwhile, the State-owned container terminal at the port is to add four new berths for feeder vessels as a means of raising productivity and reducing congestion.
This interim measure will plug a capacity gap until the opening of the South Port development. Mobile harbour cranes will be used to handle traffic at these new berths.
